Ghee for skin and hair: uses and benefits
By Vedika Ghee · 30 July 2026
Ghee has been used on skin and hair in Indian homes for generations. As a rich, natural fat, it is a simple moisturiser and conditioner.
Ghee for skin
- Dry skin: a thin layer of ghee works as a natural moisturiser for very dry patches.
- Lips: a dab of ghee soothes chapped lips overnight.
- Face: a small amount massaged in and wiped off is a traditional nourishing routine.
Ghee for hair
Warm ghee massaged into the scalp and hair, left for an hour, and then washed out is an old conditioning treatment for dry, frizzy hair. Use a small amount so it rinses out cleanly.
Ghee for babies
Gentle ghee massage is a long-standing practice for baby care. Choose a pure, lab-tested ghee for this.
Use pure ghee
For skin and hair, purity matters as much as it does for cooking. Adulterated ghee with added oils is not what you want on your skin. Our A2 Gir cow bilona ghee is lab tested, with nothing added.
